Temptation

There’s a delicious looking cake in the window of the bakery. It's been teasing me for months with its remarkably enticing richness. In fact, I often find my eyes lingering a little too long each time I pass by. And when I do, I almost always notice something new about it, something that makes my mouth water, something that fills me with desire.

However, even if this tantalizing decadence tastes as good as it looks, such seductive sweetness can’t possibly be good for me. Such things are for the young and the foolish. I’ve been both, having indulged my appetite with a few such guilty pleasures before. Likewise, those experiences taught me that no matter how slowly I savor it, my satisfaction will be brief. Ultimately, I’ll be left with an empty carton and regret.

Yet, the more I resist, the more it seeks me out. When it returns my gaze, it seems to want to delight me more than anyone else. When it stands close enough to touch, when it wraps it’s arms around me, when it whispers temptations in my ear … my thoughts blur, my skin warms, and I can barely hold myself steady.

Oh, how I long to surrender.

Beautiful my sweet friend. Simply beautiful.

Why not dive in, eating that sweet concoction in its entirety without expectations that it will keep feeding you forever, without stymying yourself with over-thinking and over-analyzing? Why not?

Why not just eat it until it's gone, expecting to be left with an empty carton at the end? Then there will be less disappointment.

'Tis better to have eaten and left with an empty carton than never to have eaten at all.

Get a slice .... g'wan!

You can marvel and delight in each bite all the flavors, textures and nuances that tickle your insides.

Letting it be ogled, alone, in a bakery case is NOT what it was made for.
It was meant to be enjoyed.
That it has caught the fancy of the Love Goddess .... well, then it's meant to be YOURS!

I've chosen the same birthday cake, year after year, for the last 18 years. I didn't mind the repetition. I had made my initial selection and that was that.

The last two years, although the cake was there, it wasn't served. Not even offered. Actually worse, when asked for it was denied.

I too have been thinking of a change. I have seen some new flavor choices. One especially is catching my eye. After so long of just one flavor- and not even tasting that the past two years- the smallest nibble is very tempting.

Hence my search for a
Morality Loophole.

Can't have your cake and eat it, too?

Dan,
Who knows better about tasty treats than a melt-in-your-mouth spoonful of buttercream like YOU?
I’ve definitely enjoyed many divine sweets throughout the years, sometimes they live up to my expectations, other times they don’t … … and every so often they delight me beyond my wildest dreams.

Blazing Hotness,
I could eat you up, my delicious little cupcake!
I think you and Dan are in cahoots with the little horned devil on my shoulder. Believe me, he doesn’t need any help!!!
You make a good point. Desserts are meant to be relished and enjoyed, especially by those who know how to appreciate them. However, I’ve been craving a full course meal these days. Do they still serve such things?

ML,
Good to see you, Sweetheart. Sounds like you’re struggling with a much more difficult decision than I am.

Popeye,
You know I’m the kind of girl who won’t settle for anything less than everything I want.

Theresa,

Thanks. Thanks for remembering me. In more than a year between my old blog and now over half of my contacts have disappeared. I'm glad to see you still here.

Take the cake now, worry about the pain later, because no matter what you do the pain always comes later; no point in wasting time worrying about it.

Um...not so much are you talking about cake here, huh? Lol.

Doesn't it suck, to get older & know that there is a price for every damn little thing we do?

But...sometimes...it's totally worth the price we pay.

I go through a similar experience every time I pass a place that sells tobacco. I've tried blinders, religion and excessive masturbation... Nothing works.

If I were you I'd lick off some of that whipped cream off the top when no one was looking.

My dad feeds me whipped cream at least once a week for a treat. I guess he's a pretty good dad in that way.

Now how about a belly rub girlfriend? MEOW!!!

R2K, Hi :)

Spin, okay, okay, as soon as I for-really-real find some exceptionally good cake, I'll eat it up.

Chick, I think something good comes out of every choice. It just takes longer to recognize the "good" sometimes.

668, aren't you the little cheerleader!

Capt. C., I'm proud of you for walking by.

Afunt, Thanks SweetStuff!

Lulu, soft kitty belly is a great treat!
